The Donnelly Homestead
One of Canada's Intriguing Historic Attractions

In the early hours of February 4, 1880, five members of a Biddulph Township family met their death at the hands of their neighbours.
Since that occurrence in Canadian history, stories have been told, books written, songs sung, and plays performed, generating
sustained interest and fascination in this tragedy.

Tour Description:
Robert Salts, who lives on the original land that was settled by James and Johannah Donnelly,
relates the story of the Donnellys during a walking tour that begins in 1842 when the family arrived in Canada from Tipperary County in Ireland. The tour traces the Donnellys' lives through time to the night of the massacre, and 1939 when the property was sold out of the Donnelly name.

The 90-minute tour (time approximate) includes a fascinating look at artifacts and original photographs of family members. Also included is a tour of the barn. Some aspects of the paranormal are touched upon, but the main focus is the Donnelly family and their lives on the Roman Line.
A Little Background:
The Donnelly  Homestead is owned by J. Robert Salts, a retired school teacher who taught public school for 25 years. A professional trance clairvoyant, Mr. Salts purchased the homestead in 1988, and lives on the property with his family. He is dedicated to telling the story of the Donnellys, and offers a warm welcome to everyone to come and discover one of Canada's most intriguing tourist attractions: the site where the Donnelly family lived and died.
