the early hours of February 4, 1880, five members of a Biddulph
Township family met their death at the hands of their neighbours. Since
that occurance in Canadian history, stories have been told, books
written, songs sung, and plays performed, generating sustained interest
and fascination in this tragedy.
Tour Description: :
Salts, who lives on the original land that was settled by James
and Johannah Donnelly, relates the story of the Donnellys during
a walking tour that begins in 1842 when the family arrived in Canada
from Tipperary County in Ireland. The tour traces the Donnelly's lives
through time to the night of the massacre, and 1939 when the property
was sold out of the Donnelly name.
90-minute tour (time approximate) includes a fascinating loot at the
artifacts and original photographs of family members. Also included is
a tour of the barn. Some aspects of the paranormal are touched upon,
but the main focus is the Donnelly family and their lives on the Roman
Donnelly Homestead is owned by J. Robert Salts, a retired school
teacher who taught public school for 25 years. A
professional trance clairvoyant, Mr. Salts purchased the homestead in

During inclement weather, the tour is done
indoors. Ten minutes
are spent outside at the site where the tragedy took place.
